November 2019

This travel team had two primary goals: Kick off the Taking Care of Moms project, and host a teacher-workshop focusing on how to teach fractions. In addition to addressing these needs, each team member focused on a number of smaller projects. Both of these projects were well received. Considerable time was spent at the education center, both for the primary project and to work with Yorlin and Cesar. The library was re-organized to help promote readership. Students in the ESL class interacted with the ACTS team and demonstrated their impressive language skills. The agricultural committee watched videos on soil improvement. Back at the bunkhouse the team enjoyed the new metal-framed roof which gave added head clearance and expanded the size of the indoor dining area. The team also spent evening looking down at the warm glow of their phones and tablets while surfing the internet. A weather station was installed at the clinic, which is configured to send data over the internet in real-time. The team also observed the morning practices at the agricultural facility, as the frijoles were receiving morning heir herbicidal treatments. The team also snuck in a little time to visit the Maestro en Casa school and the Yoro fire department.
